Easy Cacao Protein Bliss Balls
I love making these bliss balls at the start of the week. Admittedly, I don’t make them every week, but each time I do, I always wonder what stops me from doing it all the time. Having these bliss balls in the fridge means I’m not snacking on unhelpful foods around that mid-afternoon point. Plus, with the naturally sweet dates, I still get a good sugar kick! It’s winner all around really.
I’m a big believer, in understanding the basis for a recipe rather than simply following each step exactly and this ‘recipe’ is more of a guide as you can truly make protein balls with just about anything you have in the pantry.
For these bliss balls, you’ll need around 3/4 of dry ingredients such as dates/seeds, and 1/4 of wet ingredients such as dates, coconut oil, honey, maple syrup, etc. Blend it all up until you have a good consistency to roll into balls and coat in your favourite powder/seeds/coconut.
The recipe below makes approx. 20 balls and is a great place to start if you haven’t made bliss balls before.
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups nuts (e.g. macadamia, almonds, walnuts, seeds etc.)
2 tablespoons cacao
2 scoops protein powder (I use an unflavoured powder, however, you can experiment with a variety of flavours)
15 Medjool dates (seeds removed)
2/3 cup desiccated coconut
2 tbsp MCT oil/coconut oil
Pinch Himalayan salt
Optional: 4-5 drops of dōTERRA Peppermint or Wild Orange Oil
Method:
Blend nuts in Thermomix or high-speed blender on high.
Add all other ingredients and blend on high until the mixture is blended together and can be easily rolled into balls. Add small amounts of water/coconut oil if the mixture is too dry.
Roll balls approx. 3cm diameter.
Coat in your favourite toppings (e.g. desiccated coconut, cacao nibs, hemp/sesame seeds etc.) and place in the fridge for an hour to set.
